What’s in a Name?

The Full English is no more, we now introduce you to
EVERYTHING ENGLISH EDUCATION CONSULTANCY

Choosing a company name was a very strange process, it isn’t as simple as just thinking of a name you like. It has to be pertinent enough for people to understand what you are offering, catchy enough they will remember it, and broad enough to incorporate everything you are currently offering, whilst allowing for expansion in the future.

My ex colleague Martin suggested the original name. I asked if he could think of anything as a working title, and ‘The Full English’ as a consultancy service was born. The company was registered with Companies House, and we thought all was well, until I received a very polite and reasoned suggestion that I was encroaching on the brand of the NATE publication and publishers ‘The Full English’. As a consequence of this, we have decided to change the name while the company is in its infancy. The change also coincides with us moving into our fantastic brand new office space, so, we thought we may as well change the name too!

I was never totally taken with The Full English as a name, I felt slightly uncomfortable with the pun. I have a bit of an aversion to puns and business. Anyone who lives locally to me can appreciate why. Two particularly offensive uses of puns are the local carpet fitters who brag their customers can ‘Get laid professionally’ – urgh. An even bigger offender is a local scaffolding company called Climax – they claim that they are ‘permanently erect for your satisfaction’ – double urgh. I am sure they are perfectly decent tradesman – but …These two examples are a reminder that naming your company is extremely important.

So, no more puns for us. The problem we faced initially was actually finding a name that wasn’t far right politics, an old English text book, a museum topic, linked to football… it is an absolute minefield. We have combed through quotations to use or adapt, all to no avail. The eventual name we came up with was a best fit that fits with Companies House, and all of the other regulations we have to deal with. We have decided on the much safer alliterative option, and the Everything English Education Consultancy is now in existence – thank you to Debra for this suggestion!

As career teachers, the world of business is proving to be a minefield, although not necessarily in the areas we thought!

The issue with privacy and Google has also been a learning curve. I personally have made a majestic effort to have nothing personal on the internet in relation to me or my family – no Facebook or Twitter for me. But whilst setting up new companies you have got to incorporate social media, therefore, there has been no option for me but to dive into this murky world. Unfortunately, I soon discovered the downside. If you put the company name into the search engine the first link is to Companies House, with my home address on the strapline. Therefore the change of name coincides with the change to the office address. We have a fantastic office space, with readily available on site conference facilities. A much better option both for privacy and for business!

Everything will stay pretty much the same, including the company logo, the colours, the company number, the bank account details and the phone number. We do have to change the email and web address, but as we own the domains for both, communications will be directed to us. We are in the process of making all of the administrative changes.

The exceptional service is the same, and the courses will all be of the same high standard.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
