Aims:

  • The series of workshops are skills based and targeted at apprentices and employees newly introduced to the workplace;
  • Each workshop will be a combination of presentations and workshop delivery. There will be an expectation that delegates engage in the practical activities;
  • Delegates will also be required to maintain a portfolio of their progress and to prepare and deliver a final presentation.

The training will be delivered by highly skilled and experienced tutors from Everything English Education.

Workshop 1 – Introduction – The Secrets to Workplace Success!

Overview:

This introductory workshop is where the tutors will meet the delegates and complete a workplace skills review. We shall analyse the workplace challenges that are common to all newly employed young people in general, and themselves in particular. The session will give the delegates the opportunity to analyse their perceived strengths and weaknesses in the workplace and begin to apply personalised strategies to address them.

Key focus:

  • Personalised skills review.
  • Understanding common pitfalls in the workplace.
  • Personalising success via the ‘Bridging the gap’ programme.

 

Workshop 2First Impressions – Professional Behaviour in the Workplace

Overview:

All employers demand ‘professionalism’ in the workplace. This workshop will explore levels of formality and exactly what is meant by the term ‘professionalism’. We will analyse, and promote,  the ten golden rules to improving professional behaviour in the workplace.

 Key focus:

  • What do employers mean by the term ‘Professionalism’?
  • Analysis of the ten golden rules for professional behaviour in the workplace.
  • How to adapt workplace behaviour to increase my professionalism.

 Workshop 3Self-management

Overview:

This workshop focuses upon self-management and the importance of effective planning and organisation in order to see a job through to completion. The delegates will cover strategies that will assist them in prioritising and successfully meeting deadlines without being under regular supervision.

Key focus:

  • Why is planning and prioritisation central to success in the work place?
  • Six key strategies to successfully prioritise in the workplace;
  • Common pitfalls that lead to deadlines being missed and how to avoid them.

Workshop 4Social Media in the Workplace

Overview

Social media can affect communications among managers, employees and job applicants; how organisations promote and control their reputation; and how colleagues treat one another. It can also distort the boundaries between home and work. Delegates will learn how to use social media effectively in the workplace while avoiding the common pitfalls.

Key focus:

  • Employee obligations around social media policies in the workplace;
  • Using social media effectively in the workplace – Twitter, Facebook and Linked-In;
  • The common pitfalls of social media usage and work based professionalism;
  • The 5 pros and cons of social media use in the workplace.

Workshop 5 – Teamwork Skills

Overview:

Real teamwork means being good at working with people, both the people you work with, and others that come into contact with your organisation.  The old saying that ‘two heads are better than one’ is well known, but what are the best ways to combine our individual strengths in order to maximise an organisation’s potential?

Key focus:

  • What team roles exist within your organisation and where do you fit in?
  • How to build successful working relationships;
  • Building trust and conflict resolution skills for the workplace;
  • How to achieving consistency across the team.

Workshops 6 and 7 – Communication: Literacy Skills

Overview

These workshops focus upon the importance of considering audience and purpose in producing effective written communication. The workshops will give delegates a range of strategies to successfully plan for, and deliver, well written documents in a professional context.

Key focus:

  • Understanding levels of formality in written communication;
  • Clarity of written communication & editing techniques;
  • Understanding grammar, punctuation, vocabulary & tone;
  • Writing effective emails, blogs and newsletters.

Workshops 7 & 8- Communication: Public Speaking & Presentation Skills

Overview

These workshops will boost the confidence of delegates in planning and delivering successful presentations in the workplace.  It will provide them with a clarity of purpose around planning and assist you in removing the worries that can be associated with public speaking.

Key focus:

  • How to structure content and plan for a successful presentation;
  • Building ans sustaining self-confidence;
  • Practising and presentation tips to reduce nerves and increase impact;
  • Successfully dealing with questions.

Workshop 9– Initiative and Enterprise

Overview

Initiative and enterprise are about being able to think creatively and to make improvements to the way things are. This workshop looks at the bigger picture and the way individuals fit into the wider team. Delegates will study the balance between new approaches and trusted systems in maximising the efficiency of individuals and businesses as a whole.

Key focus:

  • How do we recognise a need to improve something in the workplace?
  • How to successfully propose and make changes to existing systems;
  • Developing creative ideas for new situations;
  • Finding new opportunities for the company.

Workshop 10– Problem solving

Overview

Problem solving is a central skill to resolving or planning for any issues that might affect the workplace. The delegates will consider strategies that will enable them to improve their problem solving skills and develop logical processes for finding solutions when faced with difficulties or setbacks.

Key focus:

  • How to identify problems before they occur;
  • Dealing with obstacles and finding creative solutions;
  • Testing what works in a situation;
  • Successfully resolving issues with colleagues or clients.

Workshops 11 & 12– Skills Review & Final Presentations

Overview

The final two workshops will collate all of the delegate’s previous learning and prepare them for their final presentations for a selected audience. The delegates will plan and prepare a final presentation to summarise their progress on the course based upon the skills developed across the previous sessions. All successful delegates will receive final certification.

Key focus:

  • Planning and delivering a presentation summarising the progress made during the course;
  • Areas for further development and the next steps.
